Established in 1983, Driffold Gallery is now one of the best known art dealers and consultants in the country. The gallery occupies the whole of 'The Smithy,' a grade 2 listed building of deceptive size adjacent to Sutton town centre. The NEC, the City Centre, the M5, M6 and M42 are within fifteen minutes drive and there is parking on site.
David Gilbert opened Driffold Gallery in 1983 after an ‘apprenticeship’ of 5 years as a travelling trade dealer. Buying 19th and 20th century paintings at art auctions across the UK and selling on quickly for a modest profit to established galleries, mainly in London and The Cotswolds, was a great way to learn.
Some of these galleries continued (and still continue) to buy after David opened his own gallery in Sutton Coldfield; being centrally positioned proving an advantage.
And as the standing of the gallery grew, so did the number of private buyers; from the Midlands and the wider UK. Several, who have bought on multiple occasions, now have considerable collections acquired from or through the gallery.
Values generally range from a few hundred to several thousand pounds, with all items being vetted to good London and international standards. And a comprehensive guarantee, covering artist recognition, authenticity, good example, untouched/unspoiled condition and realistic pricing, ensures rewarding ongoing satisfaction on every acquisition.
David has also been an art columnist for ‘Select’ and ‘The Journal' magazines and a consultant editor for ‘Millers Picture Price Guides’.
Most pictures come direct from previous owners or artists' studios and have not been shown elsewhere. Over 300 choice original works, changing continually.
The gallery is always looking for unspoiled and unshown examples of valued artists. Please make contact if you have something to offer.
